I collect water from the places that inspire my paintings because I want the work to hold more than my memory of a landscape. I want it to contain something of the place itself.
Collecting the water has become a small ritual of paying attention, an excuse to get outside, often with my son, to slow down and notice where I am. There is something that feels almost magical about bringing that water back into the studio and allowing it to move through the painting.
I can choose where I go, what I gather, and what I put on the paper, but once the water is released, it has a life of its own.
Rebecca Dunn developed a deep sensitivity to color, atmosphere, and composition through years of observation and experimentation. Her work continues to evolve with every piece she creates, building on lessons learned from the last and allowing each body of work to inform the next.
A mentorship with renowned landscape painter Phyllis Shafer in Lake Tahoe, California, further shaped her approach to light, structure, and emotional resonance within the landscape. Through her work, Dunn aims to create a sense of calm and openness—art that feels lived in, approachable, and meant to be shared.
In addition to her studio practice, she teaches workshops, is an active member of Yellow Studio, Ridgefield Guild of Artists and Stamford Art Association. Her work has recently been exhibited at the Stamford Art Association in Stamford CT, Yellow Studio in Cross River NY, and Peep Space in Nyack NY.
Rebecca loves to spend time outdoors mountain biking, snowboarding, gardening and adventuring with her toddler son.
