SUMMARY:The Listening Room
DESCRIPTION:The Listening Room with Carrie Linsky\nSaturday\, October 17\, 8 PM (Doors 7:30 PM)\nTickets: $35 \nThe Listening Room with Carrie Linsky is an intimate concert series that celebrates the art of songwriting through music\, conversation\, and community. Each evening features a thoughtfully curated lineup of songwriters sharing stripped-down original songs and collaborating in ways that can only happen in the moment. \nThrough thoughtful questions and candid conversation\, host Carrie Linsky takes audiences behind the curtain and into the creative lives of the artists—the inspirations\, struggles\, breakthroughs\, and moments of wonder that shape their work. Whether you’re a songwriter\, music lover\, or simply curious about the human stories behind great songs\, The Listening Room offers a unique opportunity to listen deeply and experience music in a whole new way. \nABOUT THE ARTISTS \nCarrie Linsky – Producer\, Songwriter\, Host – Georgetown\, CT\nLong before Caravan of Thieves\, there was just Carrie\, a guitar\, and a song. That’s where she started\, and where she has always felt deeply at home. \nWidely known as co-founder and co-lead of the beloved gypsy-swing quartet\nCaravan of Thieves\, Carrie has watched the band’s reach grow in ways nobody quite expected. Their song “Eat You” went viral on TikTok and now boasts over 8 million streams\, and “Raise the Dead” found a new audience following its feature on a popular HBO series last year. \nOver the past twenty years\, Carrie has been busy recording and releasing seven albums\, touring internationally\, and holding her own on stages alongside Emmylou Harris\, Keb Mo\, The Decemberists\, Bela Fleck\, and high-energy acts like Deep Banana Blackout and The Motet. She is now reemerging as a solo artist while continuing to perform with Caravan of Thieves and alt/folk duo\, Fuzz and Carrie. Carrie can command a room in any setting\, but when it’s just her and a guitar\, something opens up that feels intimate and free\, connecting instantly with her audience. \nSince planting roots in the greater Georgetown community\, Carrie has been building a home for songwriters at the Granite by leading songwriting workshop series\, hosting songwriter circles\, and curating a new concert series this October featuring local and touring performing songwriters. Learn more at caravanofthieves.com \nHeather Maloney – Featured Guest Songwriter – Northampton\, MA\nMassachusetts-based “writer song-singer” Heather Maloney found music in the midst of three years at a meditation center\, honing a sound moored in days of silent reflection and reverence for storytellers like Joni\, Rilke\, Ken Burns\, and the anonymous authors of Zen parables. While she eventually traded the quiet\, structured life of a yogi for the kinetic life of a touring musician\, the core of her songwriting has remained centered around the same curiosity about our inner world and the desire to articulate it through storytelling. \nWith over 1\,000 international shows and 8 studio albums under her belt\, she recently released her 9th and most personal record to date\, “Exploding Star”. Written in the wake of her father’s death\, “Exploding Star” is a collection of 12 songs that Maloney originally had no intentions of recording or releasing until some of her closest friends and family convinced her otherwise. \nHeather’s songs have played on NPR stations across the country and her live appearances have aired on syndicated programming like eTown and AudioTree. Her song “Nightstand Drawer” was featured in the season finale of the CBS TV series “Elementary”\, and her songs have also been streamed hundreds of thousands of times on editorial Spotify playlists & Starbucks’ in-store nationwide playlists. \nHeather has toured throughout the US & Canada as a headliner and also in support of acts including Lake Street Dive\, Shakey Graves\, Gary Clark Jr.\, Rodrigo y Gabriela\, Colin Hay (Men at Work)\, Mary Chapin Carpenter\, Shawn Colvin\, Dar Williams and many more. Learn more at heathermaloney.com \nSophie Seaver – Featured Guest Songwriter – New Canaan\, CT\nSophie Seaver is a 16-year-old Connecticut-based artist whose organic\, confessional songwriting blends mellow acoustic folk with subtle jazz influence\, marked by surprising chord changes and the warm presence of upright bass. Writing candidly about social anxiety\, relationship insecurities\, and the hidden inner lives of others\, her music feels heartfelt\, comforting\, and quietly daring. \nSophie has honed her craft through formative experiences with School of Rock\, Grammy Camp\, and Rare Artist\, and her work has been recognized nationally as a YoungArts winner. \nDrawing inspiration from artists like Adrianne Lenker\, Phoebe Bridgers\, Lizzy McAlpine\, Kacey Musgraves\, and Olivia Dean\, she is steadily shaping a timeless sound that prioritizes intimacy\, emotional honesty\, and thoughtful world-building. \nDan Asher – Featured Guest Musician – Bronx\, NY\nDan Asher has been busy performing and teaching in the New York area since graduating from Lawrence University in 2001. His active schedule has included performances at legendary venues such as Birdland\, the Blue Note\, Smalls and the 55 Bar\, covering a wide range of music\, mainly Rock\, R&B\, Jazz and everything in between. \nAs an in-demand sideman on electric and upright bass\, he has performed with artists such as Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes\, keyboardists David Bryan and Jay Oliver and trumpet legend Shunzo Ono. \nHe also performs with renowned gospel and blues artist Alexis P Suter as well as the acoustic outfit Caravan of Thieves at numerous festivals in the Northeast as well as in Canada. Most recently\, he was part of the Wheels of Soul tour with Gabe Dixon\, while also having the chance to perform with the Tedeschi Trucks Band and Los Lobos. He currently lives in the Bronx\, New York.

He has been a staple on the New York City music scene for over two decades and has toured the country\, sharing stages with such artists as; Todd Snider\, Dan Bern\, Steve Forbert\, Melissa Ferrick\, Marshall Crenshaw\, and many others. He has also received a Gold Record in Europe for his song “Maria\,” which was the single for Marshall and Alexander’s album\, Lover’s Forever. Currently\, Teddy is producing a new album of original music. \nFollow him on Instagram. \nMelissa Capezio \nSomeone once told me my sound is like if Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell had a baby. I don’t know about all that\, but it’s always made me laugh. \nRaised on traditional bluegrass and classic rock\, singing harmony was as second nature to me as walking and breathing. When I was 16\, I asked my dad to show me three chords on the guitar; I learned every song in my Tracy Chapman songbook\, and then I started writing songs of my own. I haven’t stopped writing since. I have recorded two full-length studio albums\, both available on all streaming platforms you use to listen to music. I’ve also sung background vocals on a number of friends’ projects\, something I truly love doing and would love to do more of. \nI’m a mom to an 11 and 9 year old\, both of whom are musical in their own ways too. I’ve spent most of the last 11 years of my life raising them and being a full time mom. Playing music took a big backseat until COVID came into all of our lives\, and I needed the outlet that songwriting had always been for me. Thankfully\, it came right back to me like I had never put it down. I started recording the songs I’d write in my closet and posting them on Instagram. This last year\, I got back out there and took to the stage again. And now here I am with my first ever website! Only took me 44 years to get here – right on time! \nI hope to keep writing songs and playing music. I hope to do lots more session studio work. Got songs you need sung? Harmonies you’d like to add? Let me sing them! \nLearn more about Melissa.

Cabaret is all about a singer’s connection with you\, the audience. It’s all about ‘breaking the fourth wall’-and that’s the excitement inherent in this format. \nMEET THE ARTISTS \nCharlie Widmer\, Performer \nCharlie Widmer is an award-winning singer\, songwriter\, guitarist\, and producer whose career is defined by a rare ability to navigate the worlds of Opera\, Bluegrass\, Pop\, and Jazz with equal mastery. In 2026\, he was appointed as the 19th Connecticut State Troubadour\, serving as a three-year ambassador of music and song for the state. In this role\, Charlie champions “Cultural Literacy\,” using his diverse musical background to bridge genres and inspire the next generation of artists through workshops and school residencies. \nBorn in Zürich\, Switzerland\, to a musical family of Swiss and Puerto Rican heritage\, Charlie’s path took him from the competitive stage of Die grössten Schweizer Talente (Switzerland’s Got Talent)—where he earned a standing ovation for his operatic performance—to the most iconic venues in the United States. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Western Connecticut State University and has since shared the stage as a background vocalist for global icons including Michael Bublé\, Josh Groban\, Sarah Brightman\, and 30 Seconds to Mars at venues like Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall. \nAs a recording artist\, Charlie has amassed over 100\,000 streams of his original music. He was also the frontman for the Hip-Hop/Soul group Sub-Urban and maintains a deep relationship with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra\, where he frequently headlines multi-genre programs. \nWhether he is performing a Puccini aria\, leading a bluegrass festival set\, or mentoring students on the craft of songwriting\, Charlie remains committed to the idea that music is a universal relationship that connects us all. He currently resides in Oxford\, Connecticut\, where he continues to write\, produce\, and advocate for the state’s vibrant creative community. \nEric Trudel\, Musical Director \nA native of Quebec\, Canada\, Eric Trudel graduated with top honors from the Quebec Conservatory of Music. SUMMARY:America/Beautiful
DESCRIPTION:America/Beautiful\nFeaturing Min Kwon\, Pianist\nSunday\, November 8\, 3 PM (Doors 2 PM)\nTickets $45 \nAmerica/Beautiful is a project by pianist and arts advocate Min Kwon\, in which she has commissioned 76 of today’s leading composers to each compose a variation on “America the Beautiful”. Kwon’s hope is to paint a sonic picture of her adopted country in all of its sprawling complexity\, and ultimately try to find the beauty at the core of the American experiment and its credo of e pluribus unum (out of many\, one). \n“Min Kwon’s America/Beautiful is a visionary project that speaks to the power of music to bring people together across differences. The project’s scale\, imagination\, and urgency are deeply human and profoundly of our time.”\n– Michelle Witt\, Executive & Artistic Director\, Meany Center for the Arts \nExcerpts from Artist’s Statement: Why Then and Why Now\nThe project has completely captured me. It is now an all-consuming labor of love. Its mission: \n\nTo celebrate the cultural melting pot that is our country\nTo unite as many voices as possible for one purpose\, one project\, one question: What is America? Is it beautiful\, was it ever\, or will it ever be?\nTo better listen and to better understand the voices of others.\n\nWhy then\, when many feel that America is not beautiful\, do I keep persisting on this project? Because\, despite its ever sprawling complexity\, I believe America is beautiful. It is the country my parents chose to come\, to give my sister and me a better education so we could make music that has meaning\, share music that matters. \nI believe in the transformative power of music. When you listen to this thought-provoking\, soul-stirring\, culturally rich\, and staggeringly varied collection of new music\, you will agree\, too. All seventy-six composers who contributed to the project reflected thoughtfully on our country. They entrusted me to speak through their voices\, a responsibility I don’t take lightly. It moves me deeply. So I keep at it. I believe I can reach more people and invite them to join the call for action—whether by being in the audience or by sharing the platform. \nDoes “America The Beautiful” only exist in its lyrics? Can each of these new variations help to open your ears\, spark curiosity\, and foster shared hope? I believe that all Americans can work to make America beautiful. It may take my entire lifetime—and then some—but I want to try\, with My America/Beautiful. \nMEET THE ARTIST \nMin Kwon \nKorean-born American pianist Min Kwon excels in a versatile career that encompasses concerti\, solo recitals\, and chamber music appearances\, while in high demand around the world as pedagogue\, arts advocate\, and administrator. By Athol Fugard\nNovember 14\, 8 PM (Doors 7:30 PM)\nALL SHOWTIMES: November 12-15 and 19-22\, 8 PM and 2 PM Showtimes\nThursday- Saturday (Nov 12-14 and 19-21)\, 8 PM Show\, 7:30 PM Doors\nSunday (Nov 15 & 22)\, 2 PM Show\, 1:30 PM Doors \nTickets: \n\n$45 – General Admission\n$25 – Students and Youth (13-17)\nFREE – Children under 13 can attend for free with a ticketed adult\nPlus\, a limited number of “Pay What You Can” tickets are available for each showtime.\n\nSet in apartheid South Africa\, the three-character two-act play takes place in a high school during the final years of apartheid. It tells the story of two brilliant students\, Isabel\, a young upper-class white girl\, and Thami\, an 18-year-old black boy\, and their proud\, idealistic teacher\, Mr. M. Through impassioned dialogue and dramatic exposition\, it explores themes of friendship\, prejudice\, racial unity and divisiveness\, oppression\, and violent unrest. \n“As the walls between their three worlds begin to crumble\, so do their ideas and understandings of themselves\, each other\, and the realities in which they all believed they lived. Perhaps\, if they can find the strength to really listen and hear each other\, despite the noise of their respective worlds burning around them\, they – we – can find a way to rebuild a better one from the ashes\,” says producer/director\, Charles Frederick Secrease. \nMEET THE CAST\nCharles Frederick Secrease – “Mr. M.” \nA native of Western Massachusetts\, Charles “Frederick” Secrease (he generally uses his middle name) began performing publicly at the age of six\, though not as an actor. Coming from a family of musicians\, his first love was the piano\, which has continued to this day. He studied classical performance through undergrad and postgrad at Juilliard and the Shanghai Conservatory\, and has enjoyed over thirty years with one foot firmly planted in the world of classical music. His other foot\, however\, began to wander in a different direction when\, at the age of 10\, her saw his first musical (Oliver). Spellbound\, he knew this was something he had to explore. In the years since and alongside his continued life in music\, Frederick has studied\, worked\, and performed with numerous theater companies across the U.S.\, Europe\, Asia\, and Africa. Finding a particular love of Shakespeare\, he has performed many of the classical roles\, including Marc Antony\, Macbeth\, Oberon\, and Othello. “My Children! My Africa!” holds a special place in his heart\, as playing Thami was his first professional role in a national tour of the production. Now\, some twenty-plus years later\, he’s thrilled to be producing the show in November (this time playing Mr. M.) with his newly founded company\, Lonetown Theater Works\, based in Redding\, CT. Frederick is very excited for the opportunity to partner with The Granite in this endeavor and appreciative of all those in our community who’ve come together to make it happen. \nMalin Glade – “Isabel” \nMalin Glade is a Brooklyn-based transplant hailing from California. She is a recent graduate of BYU’s Acting BFA with additional training from Kimball Studios\, the Lee Strasberg Institute\, and the Prague Shakespeare Company\, where she performed in Romeo and Juliet. Favorite credits include the Off-Broadway premiere of Alexandria (Luz U/S)\, Curtain Theatre’s Richard III (Prince Edward) and Macbeth (Witch U/S)\, and The Laundry Play (Eliza). Additional educational/regional credits: Wait Until Dark (Susy)\, Pride and Prejudice (Mary Bennet)\, Pride and Prejudice (Kitty Bennet)\, and The Last Five Years (Cathy). \nYou might catch her in an upcoming HBO miniseries (she isn’t allowed to say anything else about it)! In addition to acting\, Malin has 12 years of competitive show jumping experience and is yearning for the day she gets to ride a horse on camera/stage. Survival is insufficient! @malinglade \nJustin Villard – “Thami” \nJustin Villard is excited to be part of this production of My Children! My Africa! He graduated from Western Connecticut State University with his BFA in Theatre Arts: Acting. His most recent credits include John Nevins in Trouble in Mind at Collective Consciousness Theatre\, Dr. John Prentice in Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner\, Professor August Howe in The Mound Builders\, Reverend John Hale in The Crucible\, and Dayton in Fairview at Westrep Stage. He also recently appeared in Thrown Stone’s 2026 Short Play Festival. \nHe would like to thank everyone who has supported him through his journey. You can follow him on Instagram @justin_villard.

By Athol Fugard\nNovember 22\, 2 PM (Doors 1:30 PM)\nALL SHOWTIMES: November 12-15 and 19-22\, 8 PM and 2 PM Showtimes\nThursday- Saturday (Nov 12-14 and 19-21)\, 8 PM Show\, 7:30 PM Doors\nSunday (Nov 15 & 22)\, 2 PM Show\, 1:30 PM Doors \nTickets: \n\n$45 – General Admission\n$25 – Students and Youth (13-17)\nFREE – Children under 13 can attend for free with a ticketed adult\nPlus\, a limited number of “Pay What You Can” tickets are available for each showtime.\n\nSet in apartheid South Africa\, the three-character two-act play takes place in a high school during the final years of apartheid.

SUMMARY:Write It Down Or Improvise?
DESCRIPTION:Write It Down Or Improvise?\nJazz Meets Classical\nSunday\, December 6\, 2 PM (Doors 1 PM)\nTickets: $45 \nFeaturing: \n\nLana Auerbach\, violin\nMiriam Liske Doorandish\, cello\nAndrew Levine\, piano\nDavid Morgan\, piano\n\nThe impact of jazz on American Classical and Theater music is deep and rich\, and in this meeting of two trios- one jazz\, one classical- we will explore how jazz has entered the classical world through a host of composers who are comfortable crossing boundaries. \nMEET THE ARTISTS \nLana Auerbach\, Violin \nLana Auerbach is a versatile violinist\, fiddler\, and educator based in Newtown\, Connecticut\, whose career spans classical concert stages\, chamber series\, and roots music traditions across the Northeast. A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory (BM) and Bard College’s The Orchestra Now (MM)\, she serves as concertmaster of the Woodstock Symphony Orchestra\, performs with ensembles like the Hudson Valley and Syracuse Orchestras\, and leads her ensemble\, the Solstice Piano Trio. \nAs a fiddle player\, Lana performs with her string band Bugs on a Log and leads a community Old Time Jam in Redding\, CT. Also a dedicated educator specializing in the Suzuki Method at the Newtown Suzuki School\, she brings music to young audiences through Harmonious Tales—a creative series pairing storytelling with live bluegrass\, folk\, and chamber music arrangements. \nMiriam Liske Doorandish\, Cello \nRaised in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains\, Iranian-American cellist Miriam Liske-Doorandish is motivated by a love of collaboration that finds her equally at home in traditional chamber music settings and traditional fiddling sessions. At age 2\, Miriam politely demanded her first instrument and began lessons with her mother\, Lisa Liske. An eclectic performer\, she has pursued contemporary\, historical\, and traditional classical performance during her studies at the Royal College of Music\, Oberlin Conservatory\, and the Yale School of Music. As cellist of the exploratory ensemble Trio Ondata\, Miriam is a recipient of the 2022 Fischoff Competition silver medal and the gold and audience prizes at the 2023 Yellow Springs Chamber Competition. \nNoted for her “wonderful warmth and flexibility” and her “fresh and incisive style”\, Miriam regularly performs at festivals and chamber series across the Northeast. A dedicated educator\, she has also been recognized for her arts leadership in recent years\, receiving support from The Secular Society and Oberlin’s Flint Initiative Grant. Miriam is currently based in New Haven\, CT\, where she plays with Trio Ondata\, The Havenwood Quartet\, and maintains an independent cello studio. \nAndrew Levine\, Piano \nAndrew Levine\, The Granite’s Resident Artist for classical music\, has enjoyed a multifaceted career in the performing arts\, working as a musician\, arts administrator\, educator\, and producer. \nAndrew served as managing director of The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture\, and as the executive director of The York Theatre Company. Currently\, he is an adjunct faculty member at Western Connecticut State University\, where he teaches theater management\, and The Hartt School at the University of Hartford\, where he is an on-staff coach in the musical theater division. \nAt The Granite\, Andrew curates\, produces\, and performs concerts and activities within the classical music\, cabaret\, and musical theater worlds. \nDavid Morgan\, Piano \n \nDavid Morgan is a musician for life. For him\, it’s music 24/7. After a childhood of playing in rock bands\, competing in classical piano competitions\, putting on solo Keith Emerson keyboard shows\, and producing demos on his 4-track cassette recorder\, he knew a life of music was the only soulful and logical choice. When he was 19\, he moved to New Orleans to study with jazz legends Ellis Marsalis and Harold Battiste at The University of New Orleans. \nSince migrating to the East Coast in 1992\, he has had a rich career of touring\, recording\, producing\, writing\, and teaching. He has recorded and toured the world with his jazz trio\, renowned vocalist Neshama Carlebach\, Peter Himmelman and actress/songstress Jane Lynch\, to name a few. His original music can be heard regularly on CBS and NBC sports telecasts and cable TV shows like Pawn Stars\, Catfish\, Counting Cars and American Restoration. This past June he was the musical director for the benefit concert\, Trevor Live\, in New York City. \nMusic Education has become a very important part of Morgan’s career.  His rock band training program\, The Music Shed is in its 9th season. He developed this program to give middle and high school musicians the opportunity to get extensive coaching in rock\, jazz\, and blues music in a weekly small group setting. Lately\, Morgan has been producing and recording his students’ original music and plans to release a Music Shed Artists Vol.1 album in early 2018. He regularly performs and records with his quartet\, Portal\, a Connecticut band of brothers featuring Greg Wall\, Matt Moadel\, and Rich Zurkowski. \nAmerica: A Portrait in Sound – The Granite’s Fall 2026 Sunday Chamber Music Series
