You could see it laid out-a future performing. \nWell\, the designs we have for our life seldom end up quite the way we envisioned them. In Sing Happy\, Claire takes us on the real journey of a theater-loving performer and educator with resonant stories and songs by some of the greatest musical theater writers-Sondheim\, Weill\, Maltby and Shire\, and many more. \nJoin in on the fun! The main show will be followed by an open mic. \nThe Art of Cabaret\nIf you’re a fan of the American Musical Theater\, you’ve probably heard of the genre known as Cabaret. Cabaret offers audiences a chance to hear performers\, many of them steeped in theater practices and repertory\, in a relaxed and intimate setting. Cabaret is all about a singer’s connection with you\, the audience. It’s all about ‘breaking the fourth wall’-and that’s the excitement inherent in this format. \nMEET THE ARTISTS \nClaire Mailhot\, Performer \nClaire Mailhot is a Fairfield County–based singer\, pianist\, music director\, voice teacher\, and arts educator. For the past 15 years\, she has taught vocal music\, acting\, and general music at Wooster School in Danbury\, where she serves as Head of Music & Theatre. \nClaire has appeared throughout Connecticut with Musicals at Richter (The Sound of Music\, The Music Man\, and Annie)\, Ridgefield Theater Barn (The Baker’s Wife)\, Wilton Playshop (Into the Woods and Nunsense)\, and Fairfield Center Stage (Fiddler on the Roof). A passionate lover of musical theatre\, she has also been featured in solo concerts and cabarets throughout the region\, including performances for the Richter Arts Association and Temple Shir Shalom. \nAs a pianist and music director\, Claire has played for and conducted more than 20 productions\, with Into the Woods remaining a perennial favorite. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from The Catholic University of America—and a Master’s from the School of Life. \nJessica Smith\, Director \nJessica Smith is a theater director\, educator\, and artist\, serving most recently as an adjunct professor at Sacred Heart University and a director for theaters throughout Western Connecticut. \nA graduate of the Boston Conservatory\, Jessica teaches courses in directing\, acting\, and musical theater\, and leads directing and acting workshops for theater groups throughout New England. She also formerly offered private training\, working with high school students focused on preparing for the college musical theater audition process. \nShe is honored to direct the first in the cabaret series at The Granite and looks forward to even more fantastic programming from this inviting and diverse arts and community space. \nAndrew Levine\, Music Director \nAndrew Levine\, The Granite’s Resident Artist for classical music\, has enjoyed a multifaceted career in the performing arts\, working as a musician\, arts administrator\, educator\, and producer. \nAndrew served as managing director of The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture\, and as the executive director of The York Theatre Company. Currently\, he is an adjunct faculty member at Western Connecticut State University\, where he teaches theater management\, and The Hartt School at the University of Hartford\, where he is an on-staff coach in the musical theater division. \nAt The Granite\, Andrew curates\, produces\, and performs concerts and activities within the classical music\, cabaret\, and musical theater worlds. \nThe Art of Cabaret – Cabaret Show + Open Mic

Charlie is an award-winning singer\, songwriter\, guitarist\, and producer whose career is defined by the rare ability to navigate the worlds of Opera\, Bluegrass\, Pop\, and Jazz with equal mastery. His act\, You and I\, features a range of material that will leave you in awe of his talent. He’s joined by the very gifted pianist and music director\, Eric Trudell. \nJoin in on the fun! In 2026\, he was appointed as the 19th Connecticut State Troubadour\, serving as a three-year ambassador of music and song for the state. In this role\, Charlie champions “Cultural Literacy\,” using his diverse musical background to bridge genres and inspire the next generation of artists through workshops and school residencies. \nBorn in Zürich\, Switzerland\, to a musical family of Swiss and Puerto Rican heritage\, Charlie’s path took him from the competitive stage of Die grössten Schweizer Talente (Switzerland’s Got Talent)—where he earned a standing ovation for his operatic performance—to the most iconic venues in the United States. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Western Connecticut State University and has since shared the stage as a background vocalist for global icons including Michael Bublé\, Josh Groban\, Sarah Brightman\, and 30 Seconds to Mars at venues like Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall. \nAs a recording artist\, Charlie has amassed over 100\,000 streams of his original music. His versatility is on full display as the lead singer and guitarist for the acclaimed bluegrass quartet On the Trail\, whose single “What Do I Need With Love” reached #3 on SiriusXM’s Bluegrass Junction Top 100 chart. He was also the frontman for the Hip-Hop/Soul group Sub-Urban and maintains a deep relationship with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra\, where he frequently headlines multi-genre programs. \nWhether he is performing a Puccini aria\, leading a bluegrass festival set\, or mentoring students on the craft of songwriting\, Charlie remains committed to the idea that music is a universal relationship that connects us all. He currently resides in Oxford\, Connecticut\, where he continues to write\, produce\, and advocate for the state’s vibrant creative community. \nEric Trudel\, Musical Director \nA native of Quebec\, Canada\, Eric Trudel graduated with top honors from the Quebec Conservatory of Music. He won the prestigious Prix d’Europe competition\, which enabled him to study privately with pianists Garrick Ohlsson\, Jean-Claude Pennetier\, Marc Durand\, and Louis Lortie. He has taught and performed extensively throughout Canada\, Italy\, Germany\, Austria\, Japan\, Korea\, Spain\, and the United States. His New York City credits include recitals at Weil Recital Hall\, Alice Tully Hall\, Merkin Hall and the 92nd Street Y. \nMr. Trudel has performed in association with many organizations\, including the Metropolitan Opera\, Yale Institute for Musical Theater\, Yale School of Drama\, Montreal International Piano Festival\, the Banff Center Festival for the Arts\, L’Opéra de Montréal\, Connecticut Grand Opera\, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens\, the Oklahoma Mozart Festival\, Pro Arte Singers\, and Concora. Equally at ease in experimental projects\, he has been involved in the creation of the hit musical Nelligan in Montreal\, Christopher Cerrone’s opera Invisible Cities for Yale Institute of Music Theater\, and the new Adam Bock/Todd Almond musical We Have Always Lived in a Castle for Yale Rep. \nHis faculty appointments include the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts\, the Conservatoire de Musique du Québec in Trois-Rivières\, Montréal Opera’s Atelier Lyrique\, the Université du Québec à Montréal\, and more recently Yale University’s School of Music and Western Connecticut State University. He is currently on faculty at the University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music and Southern Connecticut State University. \nHis association with the CBC includes numerous television and radio performances as a soloist\, chamber musician\, and accompanist. On CD\, he can be heard on the CBC and Star labels\, and on the 6 albums of the complete songs of Charles Ives released by Naxos. He recently completed the recording of the complete songs for voice and piano by American composer Scott Perkins\, released in 2018. \nIn 2008\, the national publication Classical Singer Magazine chose Eric Trudel to be “Vocal Coach of the Year”\, a crowning acknowledgement of his many years of collaborative work with opera singers. They perform their diverse repertoire frequently around New York at clubs such as Mezzrow and Dizzy’s. Their music is a spiritual journey of lyrical\, textural\, and harmonic storytelling. As artists\, Abedi and Block are vulnerable\, dramatic\, and spontaneous\, aiming to create a space to reflect and feel our inner emotions. Together\, they embrace true improvisation\, and their shows are always fresh\, daring\, and captivating. \nJoin in on the fun! Her debut jazz album with virtuoso pianist Joe Block\, “Love Shadows” was released last year\, showcasing her wide range of stylistic depth. She is one of the six founding members of Voces8 Foundation’s treble ensemble Lyyra and has made her stamp in the choral world with her arrangement “Jhoro Jhoro”. She also sings with premier vocal ensembles like the NY Philharmonic Chorus\, Yale Choral Artists\, Kaleidoscope Vocal Ensemble\, Downtown Voices\, The Choir of Trinity Wall Street\, Voices of Ascension\, and many more. \nShabnam studied classically at Mason Gross School of the Arts and jazz at The Juilliard School\, making her Juilliard’s first South-Asian American jazz voice graduate. Having played and sung Indian classical music from a young age\, Shabnam’s first album “Amar Bijon Ghore” is praised widely in South Asia. \nJoe Block\, Piano \n \nJoe Block is a New York-based pianist\, composer\, bandleader\, and educator. He started playing classical piano at age 2\, and has worked with Wynton Marsalis\, Kurt Rosenwinkel\, and Leslie Odom Jr. He is hailed by Jazz at Lincoln Center as one of “jazz’s most promising young composers\,” and is a musical director for select JALC performances. \nBlock is a graduate of Columbia University and The Juilliard School; most recently\, he was named a semifinalist in the 2023 Herbie Hancock International Piano Competition. \nThe Art of Cabaret – Cabaret Show + Open Mic
